What is Retrograde?

The word "Retrograde" literally means "going backward." That is what appears to be happening in the sky when a Planet "goes retrograde."

This is a phenomenon because, as we know, everything in the Solar System moves in an ecliptic, forward, motion. "Going retrograde" is a visual illusion that happens, at certain times of the year, when a Planet changes its angular position in relationship to the Earth.

What is a Station?

A Station is defined from a point of view when standing on the Earth. When we look up into the sky, it is a point where a planet appears to have stopped moving. Then, the Planet appears to begin moving again, very slowly, in the opposite direction. It is at this exact point, that the Planet is considered to be "Retrograde Station." Conversely, when the Planet appears to make another stop or "Station," and once again begins to move forward, it is called "Direct Station."

Using Retrograde Cycles to Our Advantage

We can use these Retrograde periods, or cycles, as a chance to do our personal, inner work. In the past, these time periods use to be considered inauspicious, presaging ill-fortune. Not So! When you understand the energies at hand, we can look at it as a so called "second chance." We can re-work, re-think, re-do, re-claim, and re-connect with ourselves, others, and our environment. That which was lost, just may be found!

You see, much of the natural process that takes place during a retrograde is with the use of the mind and the emotions. Therefore, peoples motives in certain situations may be less obvious to us. As a result, we may not immediately be able to get to the bottom of some issues or the truth of a situation. For this reason, it is a good period for thinking things through and observing the conditions or state of affairs. Through reasoning, when the cycle goes direct again, we should have clarity and conclusion.

Knowing the Planet

Knowing the planet that is retrograde, and the star sign that it is in, will give us a tremendous advantage in dealing with its energies. It will also teach us how to successfully apply these energies and feelings to our lives for a prosperous evolution.
